How can I “Rent the Rock?”

How much does it cost to rent the rock and how do I pay?

It is $20 to Rent the Rock.  You will be required to submit payment at the time of your reservation. Painting of the rock will occur after 3:45 pm on your reserved day. If you have reserved the rock for a Monday, you may paint the rock that Monday after 3:45pm.  For example:  If you would like your message to be seen the morning of February 26, then you need to reserve February 25.  You may begin painting at 3:45pm on February 25 and cannot be painted over until the next day at 3:45pm​

What supplies do I need?

You will typically need two to three cans of spray paint for the base coat, additional paint for your design, and one can of clear coat to seal in your design. For more intricate designs- craft paint, foam brushes and even stencils work great. PTO DOES NOT SUPPLY THE PAINT OR SUPPLIES NEEDED.

• Pre-planned design

• Pencil and eraser

• Acrylic paint for base- 2oz bottle (2-4)

• Acrylic paint for design - 2oz bottles in a variety of colors

• Small roller and paint tray/paper plates

• Starter pack of acrylic brushes to paint on your design

• Bottled water & brush rinsing cup

• Paper plates to mix colors on

• Bags for trash and taking home brushes to wash

• Knee pad for kneeling while painting

What can I reserve the rock for?

You can reserve the rocks for anything!! A student’s birthday, to thank a teacher or staff member, congratulatory events, good luck in competitions and tournaments, recognizing milestones...the rock is a fun way to spread any kind of positive message. Please note that profanity and political messages are not permitted.

What if I reserve the rock and the weather is bad?

You can reach out and receive a full refund OR you can reschedule for another date. The rock can be towel dried and the paint will adhere even in the rain and or snow if you want to brave the elements. Rain or shine, be sure to seal your design with a clear coat once you have finished painting.

Will Sawnee Elementary (or the PTO) paint the rock for me?

NO - Sawnee Elementary is not responsible for painting the rock. You may hire someone to paint it for you, however painting the rock is part of the fun!

What if the rock is already reserved on the date I want?

Rock reservations are on a first come, first served basis, so make your reservations NOW!! If the date you want is already reserved, choose the next available date, either before or after.
